(ANSA) – ROME, MARCH 27 – Social integration also involves conscious use of the internet, often the only window to the outside for many young patients. For this reason, Smile House ETS Foundation, which has been treating children and young adults with cranio-maxillofacial malformations for over 24 years, organized a meeting between the staff of the National Cybersecurity Agency (ACN) and the patients who belong to the Smile House Rome Center inside the San Filippo Neri Hospital. This initiative allowed the children to discuss the opportunities of the Internet, but also the potential risks of unaware navigation, receiving the “Cybersecurity” diploma at the end of the meeting, as well as gifts and Easter eggs. “One of the consequences of convalescence from an operation or the social isolation that often results from a facial malformation is that patients find the internet the main, if not the only, channel for socialization – explains Domenico Scopelliti, Vice President of Smile House ETS Foundation and Chief Medical Director of the World Craniofacial Foundation-.
Unfortunately, this use of devices connected to the internet, such as mobile phones and tablets, is often not accompanied by awareness of the risks present on the web. The Foundation’s mission begins with surgery and specialist care, but continues with a multidisciplinary approach that allows the patient to acquire complete social integration”. This is where the collaboration with the Cybersecurity Agency was born. “The Agency was created to enhance the aspects of cyber security and resilience, also through the safe use of technologies and in-depth knowledge of the cyber threat framework – concludes Nunzia Ciardi, Deputy Director General of the National Cybersecurity Agency -. From this perspective, it becomes essential to act to train and make citizens aware and, above all, the youngest, immersed in a hyper-connected context, who risk being overwhelmed by an unsafe virtual environment”.
