Nearly fifty years have passed since the massacre of athletes in Munich and now the German film and television company Telepool – jointly owned by the couple Will and Jada Pinkett Smith – has announced that it will soon produce a new three-episode docu-drama series dealing with the shocking massacre. With 8HOT and Tadmor Entertainment.

The series, which is currently being filmed in Germany and Israel, will follow through archive materials and remade scenes the events that led to the murder of the athletes, will reveal for the first time confidential protocols of the German government dealing with developments that led to the failure of the Olympic village. The three episodes of the series will describe the events according to a timeline and through three different points of view, while exposing the behind-the-scenes of the event.

After auditions for the key roles in the series, a number of actors were cast: Anat Waxman will play the then Prime Minister Golda Meir, Uri Pepper will play the character of the head of the Mossad, Zvi Zamir and Nati Ravitz will step into the shoes of Defense Minister Moshe Dayan. The Israeli judoka and world champion, Sagi Muki, will play the Israeli weightlifting champion, Yosef Romano. The series “Munich 72” will be broadcast in September 2022. Directed by Roman Shmonov (‘Chernobyl’, ‘The Dreams from Babylon’) and producer Ronen Balsam.
