The accident happened on Friday evening on the Maišiagala-Nemenčinė road. A man driving a Toyota Prius lost control of his vehicle after driving less than a kilometer from Maišiagala on a winding and hilly road, drove off the road, hit the edge of a ditch and rolled over. After the accident, the car was left lying on its roof.
The driver was not injured in the accident, but it turned out that he was drunk. With the first blow, the man blew 2.70 percent into the police breathalyzer, and with the second – 2.50 percent. This is already drunkenness, for which a pre-trial investigation begins. So the officials had no choice but to start it.
Laws for driving under the influence, when the alcohol content exceeds 1.5 percent, provide, among other things, up to a year in prison.
According to preliminary data, the driver involved in the accident is a local resident. He must have known that the recently repaired road, despite the renewed asphalt surface, is dangerous in this area due to the twists and peculiarities of the terrain. Drivers need to slow down and be extremely careful here. However, from the signs left at the scene, before the accident, the Toyota driver was driving at a not very safe speed, endangering not only himself, but also those around him.
The incident is under investigation.
