The attack took place on the first evening of the annual Bayonne celebrations (Pyrénées-Atlantiques). A 46-year-old man was returning home when he caught three individuals urinating outside his house. As he asked them to stop, the three men began to beat him, says France Info. The victim received a particularly violent blow to the head. Transported to Bayonne hospital, he suffered from a cerebral hemorrhage. Plunged into an artificial coma for nine days, he died on Thursday August 3, said the Bayonne prosecutor’s office.

The three attackers have still not been found. The police, who have been entrusted with an investigation for attempted murder, are continuing their research and have released composite portraits accompanied by descriptions. They would be men aged 20 to 25, of athletic build, with short chestnut-brown hair. During the facts, they wore white or red shorts and were bare-chested. One of the men would measure between 1.80 and 1.85 m.

920 complaints in five days

The police are also looking to collect photos or videos of the attack. People holding information or a document useful for research are invited to join 05 57 85 77 00.

During the five days of festivities in Bayonne, 920 complaints were recorded by the police, double the number of last year. Among them, four complaints for rape “occurred on the public highway or in apartments”, some of which could be “clearly established”, indicated the deputy prosecutor of Bayonne.
