“Israel will pay,” warns Tehran.

Sayed Razi Mousavi, a senior adviser to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, was killed by an Israeli airstrike on the outskirts of Damascus, Syria.

Mousavi was responsible for coordinating the military alliance between Syria and Iran and one of the Guards’ oldest advisors in Syria. In fact, he was “among those accompanying Qassem Soleimani,” the head of the Guards’ elite Quds Force, who was killed in a US drone strike in Iraq in 2020.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have warned Israel that they will pay for Mousavi’s murder. Shortly afterwards, Iranian President Ebrahim Raishi accused Israel of killing Mousavi and warned that Israel “will definitely pay for this crime”. As he added in his related statement, “this action is undoubtedly another indication of the frustration, weakness and incompetence of the Zionist regime in the region.”

It is noted that Israel has been carrying out attacks in Syria for years against targets allegedly linked to Iran. Earlier this month, Iran said Israeli strikes killed two members of Syria’s Revolutionary Guards who had served as military advisers there.

Tehran’s influence in Syria has grown since it backed President Bashar al-Assad in the war that broke out in the country in 2011.
