A group of scientists led by Takato Kusakabe from Cornell University concluded that the presence of the yeast Candida albicans in the intestinal microbiota increases the risk of severe disease of the COVID-19 coronavirus and “long Covid.”

The authors of the work, published in the journal Nature Immunology, concluded that mushrooms cause excessive activation of the immune system during coronavirus.

Scientists collected information about patients and conducted experiments on mice.
