The Luna It literally has two faces: the one we see from Earth has great plains (called “seas”) that were oceans of lava. The hidden part, meanwhile, is full of craters and mountains. Since its discovery in 1959 by a Soviet probe, scientists have tried to solve this mystery. Now, a study published in the journal ‘Science Advances’ has a new hypothesis: the difference was caused by a giant impact that took place billions of years ago.
Actually, it is a theory that has been raised before. However, it is the first time that such a concrete story has been constructed: the collision formed the basin basin of the Polo Sur-Aitken of the Moon, which in turn would have created a huge column of heat that spread through the lunar interior.
