A peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan can be signed only after making changes to the Constitution of Armenia, said President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, receiving General Secretary of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Martin Chungong.
“If Armenia puts an end to its territorial ambitions towards Azerbaijan and makes changes to the Constitution and other legal documents, peace can be achieved,” Aliyev said.
He noted that “there is already de facto peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and there has been a peaceful situation on the border of the two countries for several months now.”
“But in order to bring this process to its logical conclusion, it is necessary to sign a peace treaty and put an end to Armenia’s territorial ambitions towards Azerbaijan,” said the President of Azerbaijan.
He also noted that “the Declaration of Independence of Armenia contains direct calls to unite Karabakh with Armenia and violate the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, and the references to that document are also reflected in the Constitution of Armenia.”
