With great interest, the Bulgarian Ski Federation, Sofia Municipality and the “Sofia – European Capital of Sports” Foundation opened today the photo exhibition “100 Years of Skiing in Bulgaria”. 52 unique photos of the distinguished photographers Bonchuk Andonov, Yanko Garov, Kostadin Andonov and Dimitar Mihailov present in the garden in front of the NDK the great moments, personalities and successes in the rich history of this sport in our country.

The exhibition was opened by the chairman of BF Ski Tseko Minev, Georgi Bobev – vice-chairman of BF Ski and Anatoli Iliev – organizational secretary of the Foundation “Sofia – European Capital of Sports” also addressed the attendees with greetings.

“Thank you to the authors who have captured wonderful moments and give us the opportunity to enjoy once again famous events and personalities in the rich and successful history of Bulgarian skiing. I would also like to highlight two other very important areas of activity in recent years – the organization of the hosts of big starts from the FIS calendar in all our winter centers, for which we receive excellent marks, and the “Learn to Ski” Project, through which thousands of young Bulgarians experience the pleasure of the snow disciplines and are in the fresh air in the mountains,” said Tseko Minev, who is also the vice-president of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee and a member of the Executive Committee of the International Ski Federation (FIS).

Georgi Bobev thanked the Sofia Municipality and the “Sofia – European Capital of Sports” Foundation, which, together with the Ski Federation, are co-organizers of this photo exhibition, and recalled the many events that this year marks the centenary of skiing in our country.

“The first ski competitions, the first chance for jumps, the first great successes and breakthroughs in world sports – all this is collected in one collection of 52 priceless photos for history,” said Anatoli Iliev.

Bonchuk Andonov, one of the authors of the photos in the exhibition, talked about how many decades ago he started his long-standing career as a sports photographer with one photo from a giant slalom competition in Borovets. “The exhibition has collected the most significant part of the centuries-old kaleidoscope of some of the most popular, successful and beloved by Bulgarians snow disciplines,” Andonov also said.

“The lenses of the masters of sports photography Bonchuk Andonov, Yanko Garov, Dimitar Mihailov and Kostadin Andonov do not allow the great moments, events and personalities in the rich 100-year history of Bulgarian skiing to pass us by and be forgotten,” the message says. to the authors.

The exhibition is part of the celebrations of the centenary of the Bulgarian Ski Federation, and the photographs commemorate significant events and activities that have taken place over the past 100 years under the banner of one of the world’s most popular sports.

The opening ceremony was attended by legends of Bulgarian skiing, coaches, figures, friends and fans of skiing.

The photographs will be exhibited until April 30 in the “Outdoor Gallery” of the NDK, next to the Kino Cabana – this is in the garden in front of the NDK next to the monument with the lion cub at the entrance alley from the Kravai side.
