Since 2015, François Heusbourg, the host of Éditions Unes, has passionately translated the poems of one of the great American poets, Emily Dickinson (1830-1886). A teeming poetic work of some 1,800 poems, the vast majority kept secret during the lifetime of this astonishing personality, living almost as a recluse in his house in Amherst in Massachusetts. “I started these new translations because I had read the complete poems which had shocked me, and I was unable to recommend a book to my friends who wanted to discover it, he says. As she has not written a collection, my idea is to concentrate for each volume on a very precise and limited period, and to make a broad choice within this period. »On the mortal side, fifth in this collection, focuses on the years 1880 and 1881 with usually brief poems. Tight texts, both passionate and addressed to the reader in the hollow of the ear, inhabited by a high transcendence. After the magnificent anthology of his poems illustrated by American painting published a few weeks ago by Diane de Selliers (see on la-croix.com)this new work continues to bring back to light this masterful and intimate work, which we never really leave after having discovered it.
