It has been insisted on for years and recently the World Health Organization (WHO) once again confronted us with the facts: more and more children are overweight. Even one in four minors in our country will suffer the consequences. Pediatrician Karolien Van De Maele and the rest of the obesity team at UZ Antwerp (UZA) see the consequences of overweight in children every day, both physical and mental. Getting the parents involved, gradually teaching the children new habits, it is always a challenge and not always a success. “We are only now seeing the beginnings of the many consequences of obesity being passed down from generation to generation.”
