A senior security official claimed that there is information indicating that Iran may take advantage of the difficult situation in Syria following the strong earthquake and will try to take advantage of humanitarian aid shipments in order to transfer weapons and various means to Hezbollah, as reported this evening (Thursday) in the Saudi newspaper “Ilaaf”.

Report in Syria: at least ten dead in the attack on the truck convoy on the border with Iraq

The source stated that Israel will not hesitate to bomb any Iranian equipment that is sent to Syria under the auspices of humanitarian aid. According to him, Tehran tried in the past to transport equipment and weapons under cover through trucks that carried, among other things, fruits and vegetables. According to him, the Assad regime has no authority to demand that Iran stop the transfer of weapons, since most of the smuggling is carried out with the knowledge of the regime, even without its approval. He also said that Israel has increased surveillance in all areas of what Iran is transferring to Syria on a daily basis and that the intelligence personnel are working to locate the Iranian trucks and their contents.

As you may recall, last month the Syrian Human Rights Organization reported that aircraft attacked a convoy of trucks in al-Bukhmal, on the Syria-Iraq border. It was also reported that the airstrikes were carried out against Iranian commanders. According to a report in the Saudi “Al-Arabiya”, the convoy consisted of 25 vehicles and was attacked after crossing the border from Iraq. It was also reported that it passed through a crossing controlled by Hezbollah and that the aircraft sent out warning lights to allow the drivers to escape.

As for the humanitarian aid to the victims of the earthquake, the official claimed that the army did not receive instructions to supply Syria with medicine or equipment, but Israel will be right to help wherever the need arises and will be asked to do so.
