The desire to continue telling the “passions, impetus and fury” of the Ristuccia family had already arisen during the filming of At home everyone is fine
. “That film wanted to continue.” The landing in seriality, says Gabriele Muccino, was a natural step: the result are the eight episodes of the series broadcast from December 20 on Sky and streaming on Now, but the director is already writing with the team of authors led by Barbara Petronio the second season. Un family drama, human comedy with an open heart, narrated «without smoothing edges, pains, unpleasantness of being, defeats, the fact that the protagonists are defeated and unable to be happy all together and find it hard to admit it even to themselves. I didn’t want to negotiate with a medium other than cinema, I brought it to TV ». The series, produced by Sky with the Lotus of the Leone group, is a meticulous and dispassionate family portrait. I Ristuccia, wealthy managers of San Pietro, one of the most renowned restaurants in the capital: Pietro and Alba (Francesco Acquaroli and Laura Morante) and their three children Carlo, Sara and Paolo (Francesco Scianna, Silvia D’Amico and Simone Liberati). And the closest relatives, the Mariani, the heirs of Maria, sister of Pietro (Paola Sotgiu): Riccardo (Alessio Moneta), linked to Luana (Emma Marrone) and Sandro (Valerio Aprea). In the cast also Euridice Axen, Angelo Folletto, Milena Mancini. And some very young actors, including the little Federico Ielapi, on whom Muccino, already a talent scout of a generation of actors, from Accorsi to Favino, among the interpreters of the film, assures that he wants to bet. “The cast is a special gem. Authentic and vital actors, chosen with great care, thinking that they had to apply themselves to the way of being in the world of the characters met in the film, not to resemble him but to be a declination of those identities », says Muccino.

“They are characters inspired by people from whom I have drawn widely, I know their DNA, they are the result of coring of lived lives”. Starting with his own, he admits. “There is something about me, of course, and traits close to the people who have been close to me since birth. I have the luxury of being able to tell what I am the product of, what I tell is the result of my lived life. The investigation you do on yourself, on your existential fatigue, on the reasons that make you so unresolved, but also so happy, so full of the desire to love, transparent, I have often poured it into my characters. With the series you can do it in a more in-depth, relaxed and thoughtful way. You can trace the origin, which is always that of our childhood, of the relationship with our parents who in turn bring with them complications or unresolved conflicts “. The examination of human relations has always been the heart of his cinema. With seriality only the method changes. “It’s a great team work that is thrilling me ». With twists that it is good not to reveal. «The story turns into crime, it was Barbara’s intuition that I willingly followed, an original sin that marks the history of this family. The dark has always attracted me, the black out of reason for primordial reasons, the most complex component of the human soul since the time of Cain and Abel ». Already at work for the second season of At home everyone is fine. The series, therefore, while Sky has entrusted the same international distributor of Gomorrah foreign sales. “I would like to complete, even partially, the first two chapters – continues Muccino -, shooting them myself with a language that I cannot entrust to another director because it is too personal”. Mucciniano, one might say. “I am always grateful to my actors who enter this way of being in the world. I see cinema in the same way I live life: impetuous, impulsive, unruly, transparent and I have put them in the cinema and they have created a recognizable trait that can be loved or hated but it is mine ».
