A setback to AAP; The High Court stayed the MCD Standing Committee election

by time news

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has said that there should be no standing committee elections in the Delhi Municipal Corporation. The court stayed the decision to hold elections on 27th of this month. The court has sent a notice to the governor and the mayor in this regard. The court decided on the petition of the BJP member.

The court order was a setback for the Aam Aadmi Party. Yesterday, the High Court ruled that the mayor has no power to conduct re-election without announcing the results of the election to the six-member standing committee.

During the counting of the standing committee election votes in the council hall last day, the holocaust was staged. The members slapped, beat and kicked each other to the ground. Some of the councilors fainted in the scuffle. Congress members boycotted the vote.
