Al-Marsad Newspaper: The supervisor of the National Program for Screening Genetic Diseases in Newborns, Dr. Diaa Arafa, said that 65% of genetic diseases are due to consanguineous marriage.
“Arafa” added, in an intervention on the “Al-Ikhbariya” channel, that the child takes the change from the father and mother, and sometimes they do not have diseases and the child is infected.
And he continued: Any person in the world carries from 4 to 6 mutations, and when he meets a relative, the infection rate is high and reaches 25%.
He continued: Makkah Al-Mukarramah region has the highest infection rate, reaching 1.9 per thousand, and there are genetic diseases prevalent in the eastern regions, such as sickle cell diseases, and there are diseases prevalent in the south.
