The CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) presented this Thursday (31) a study in which 41% of black professionals working in Brazil, including athletes, committee members and referees, claim to have suffered racism in the exercise of their activity.

The study was prepared by the entity in collaboration with the Football Racial Discrimination Observatory and Nike. It consulted a total of 508 national soccer professionals and addressed issues related to race, religion, sexual orientation and origin.

The data was collected between the months of July and August, with professionals working in Series A and B of the men’s Brazilian Championship, as well as in Series A1 and A2 of the women’s. When presenting the study, the CBF affirmed that “the need for educational campaigns and stricter sanctions is urgent” against racism.

According to the report, 53.9% of the attacks occurred in stadiums and 31% on social media. 11.4% of those surveyed claimed to have been the victim of insults within training centers and concentrations, and 3.3% mentioned cases in hotels. “This shows that the problem is far from being limited to the occasions shown by the screens that cover football matches.”
