Minister of Resources, Aoun Diab Abdullah, revealed today, Monday, a plan to establish a group of water harvesting dams to benefit from floods.

A statement by the ministry – received by the (INA) – said: “Minister of Water Resources Aoun Diab Abdullah participated in the activities of the Sixth Arab Water Forum in Abu Dhabi in the high-level ministerial dialogue session held under the title of addressing regional water challenges, with the attendance of a group of ministers of water resources and energy in Arab countries.”

The statement added that “the dialogues included discussions on sustainable management of water resources and adaptation to climate change that has affected the Middle East and the Arab region in particular, modern innovations and cooperation for water security in the Arab region. The challenges facing the region were highlighted and joint cooperation between Arab countries was urged.”

The minister pointed out – according to the statement – “the most important internal and external challenges facing Iraq, such as water shortages from upstream countries, climate impacts, and the ministry’s effective plans to manage water resources and how to secure the large and increasing needs with the increase in population and agricultural lands.”

He stressed, “The serious approach in the field of water conservation and the use of modern irrigation methods and the ambitious planned projects represented by the establishment of a large group of water harvesting dams to benefit from the floods in the rainy season,” stressing, “The necessity of supporting the Arab brothers by supporting Iraq’s water rights with neighboring countries due to the great challenge facing us in this regard.”
