Aanchal GS Singh is on the cusp of a significant career milestone, gearing up for her first major feature film as a leading lady. The actor, currently preparing for “Magical Wallet,” anticipates beginning filming in Varanasi in mid-February.
The upcoming film represents a pivotal moment for Singh, who has been steadily building her career since 2013 across various industries. “I have been working in various industries since 2013 and have done films as well, but this will be my proper Bollywood film as a lead,” she stated. Her recent performances in the OTT series “Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein” and “Undekhi” have garnered attention, positioning her for this breakthrough role.
A Blend of Mythology and Modernity
“Magical Wallet” will see Singh paired opposite veteran actor Jimmy Shergill. She describes her character as a deeply religious woman whose family’s fortunes shift with the arrival of a magical element. “Yes, I play his wife, who is very religious, and the family is struggling until that magic happens. I am very excited as it weaves the current world with mythology,” Singh explained. The film’s poster shoot, she added, successfully captured this mythological essence.
The cast also includes seasoned performers Sanjay Mishra and Ishtiyak Khan. Singh expressed her eagerness to collaborate with such established talent. “Sanjay Mishra sir and Jimmy are such versatile and senior artists. I am working hard on the script to match their brilliance,” she said, praising director-writer Nitin Kushwaha for seamlessly blending modern and mythological themes.
A Return to Varanasi
The filming location of Varanasi holds a special significance for Singh. She revealed a personal connection to the city, recounting a previously missed opportunity to witness the Maa Ganga aarti. “After the release of my series, my parents visited Varanasi. We had scheduled a family holiday, but I was not able to make it. I somehow managed to reach for a day but missed the magical Maa Ganga aarti. I then prayed to be called back and see—now I am going to shoot there and spend time during a long schedule,” she shared.
Expanding Horizons
Beyond “Magical Wallet,” Singh is also involved in another currently untitled film project alongside Darshan Kumar. Her experience extends beyond Bollywood, with previous work in Sinhala (Sri Lankan), Tamil, and Punjabi films, as well as various OTT series and music videos.
Singh emphasized her commitment to selecting roles that showcase her acting abilities. “I have been here for many years now. I realized that more than being known as a good-looking person, I want to be known as a good actor, and for that, you need a good script. So, I have focused on that,” she stated. She is now prioritizing projects based on the director and producers’ vision and the overall realization of the film.
Demonstrating a clear sense of her career trajectory, Singh remains selective about the roles she accepts. “I was offered a film with an ensemble cast featuring leading names, but I had nothing much to do in it, so I skipped it. I am looking for leading film roles for now, and multi-starrers are also welcome if I have a substantial contribution to make,” she concluded, signaling her determination to secure impactful roles in the industry.
