This position represents Ramsey’s first permanent management role in football, following a brief stint as interim boss at Cardiff City for three games in 2025. Ramsey emphasized that he and his staff are fully focused on the existing group of players, noting that they have enough quality to be competitive.

The squad recently returned from a pre-season training camp in Spain, a period Ramsey described as a really good start
for his tenure. The team demonstrated their current form on Tuesday with a 3-1 victory against Aldershot Town in a friendly match. Ramsey praised the commitment and standards of the players during the intense pre-season training sessions.
“Over the last few weeks we’ve had a really good start, the boys’ commitment and their standards have been exceptional and we’ve been asking a lot of them. They’ve responded really well to it so I can’t fault the effort of the players and we’ll just keep building on this.”

The club has stated its intention to retain its current squad over the summer, a stance that Ramsey believes is a positive indicator from the ownership. Looking ahead, Oxford United has a busy schedule of friendlies against Barnet, Crawley Town, and Ipswich Town. The club is set to begin its competitive campaign in the League Cup against Leyton Orient on 8 August, followed by the opening League One match of the season at home against MK Dons one week later.
