UNLV Diver Allyse Abbott Named Mountain West Diver of the Week
A standout performance in the Rebels’ season opener has earned UNLV sophomore Allyse Abbott the Mountain West Diver of the Week award, as announced Tuesday by the league office.
The accolade recognizes Abbott’s impressive showing in UNLV’s dual meet victory over Brigham Young University. Abbott, a native of Gillette, Wyoming, demonstrated exceptional skill and consistency, securing crucial points for the Scarlet & Gray.
Dominating Performance Against BYU
Abbott’s performance was highlighted by a first-place finish in the 1-meter dive, where she achieved an NCAA zone qualifying score of 276.45. She further solidified her position as a top competitor by placing second in the 3-meter dive with a score of 278.10. These results were instrumental in UNLV’s overall team win against the Cougars.
“Abbott’s dedication and talent are clearly paying off,” a team spokesperson stated. “Her ability to perform under pressure is a valuable asset to the program.”
Looking Ahead: Trojan Diving Invitational and Minnesota Invitational
The UNLV diving teams, including Abbott, will next compete at the Trojan Diving Invitational, hosted by the University of Southern California from November 20-22 at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center. This event will provide a challenging opportunity for the team to test their skills against some of the nation’s top divers.
Meanwhile, the UNLV swimming team is preparing for the Minnesota Invitational, scheduled for December 4-6. This competition will serve as a key benchmark as the Scarlet & Gray progress through the season.
