Cairo – INA The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, received the new Director-General of the Arab Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALEXO), Saud Hilal Al-Harbi, who took the legal oath before the Secretary-General, marking the beginning of his assumption of office. The correspondent of the (INA) quoted the spokesman for the Secretary-General, Minister Plenipotentiary Mahmoud Afifi, as saying, “The meeting witnessed a discussion of the current conditions of the organization and how to work to advance the efforts made through it to support and mobilize the national energies of the Arab countries in the various fields related to education and culture, in addition to Strengthening joint cooperation between Arab countries, institutions and peoples in these fields.” Afifi added, “The Secretary-General was keen to stress in this regard the centrality of the organization’s role and his full support for this role, especially in light of it being one of the most important and oldest specialized Arab organizations,” noting “the importance of the coming period witnessing intensive work on the part of the organization to deal with intellectual and cultural challenges.” And the science that the Arab nation faces, especially with regard to confronting the ideology of extremism, fanaticism, and extremism, and promoting the ideology of moderation in various sectors of society, especially the youth, and openness to others, while at the same time balancing the specificity of Arab culture and calling on its sources of strength.”
