About 6,000 NGOs will lose their licenses to foreign funds: Center | FCRA | NGO | Oxfam

New Delhi: The Union Home Ministry has said that about 6,000 NGOs and other organizations have lost their FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act) licenses to receive funds from abroad. The new figures come after the government denied permission to renew the FCRA license of Mother Teresa Missionaries of Charity.

Of the 18,778 NGOs whose FRCA expires between September 29 and December 31, 2020, only 12,989 NGOs applied for license renewal. The Center also said that the term of 5,789 establishments ended on Friday. The ministry said 179 applications for renewal of licenses, including those of Mother Teresa Missionaries, had been rejected and other applications were being scrutinized.

Oxfam India, Oxfam India Trust, Jamia Millia Islami, Indian Medical Association, Leprosy Mission, Tuberculosis Association of India, Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts and India Islamic Cultural Center were among those who lost their FCRA licenses, national media reported.

The licenses of Oxfam India and Oxfam India Trust expired in recent months. It is reported that the license will be lost on January 1, but the registration will not be lost.
