CHENNAI: The Electricity Department has warned that strict action will be taken if electricity workers take money from the public to link the Aadhaar number with the electricity connection number. It was announced by the Electricity Department that Aadhaar should be linked with electricity connection number throughout Tamil Nadu. Accordingly, these works are going on at a brisk pace. In particular, 2,811 special camps have been set up in power board offices across Tamil Nadu. In this case, information reached the headquarters that some of the power board employees were asking for money to link Aadhaar.

The Director of Power Generation and Distribution Corporation, Sivalingarajan, has issued a statement to the officials of the Power Board: Adequate seating facilities should be provided for the public coming for Aadhaar connection works. Due priority should be given to the elderly and differently abled. If necessary, the public should be provided with the facility of pandal. Also, alternate computers should be arranged to avoid delays in case of technical failure of the computer during connection work. Also the zonal authorities should ensure that no money is taken from the public coming for Aadhaar linking.

In that way, if there are any complaints regarding the purchase of money, strict action will be taken against them immediately. Also, the Executive Engineers should monitor the Aadhaar linking work in the Divisional Offices on a daily basis. Any technical problem should be brought to the attention of the technical department and resolved. Name change can also be done at Aadhaar linking counters. Aadhaar linking counters will be open from 10.30 am to 5.15 pm on festive days till 31st Dec without food and tea break. Also, awareness banners about the need to link electricity with Aadhaar number should be kept at various places in the divisional offices. He said this in the statement.
