Adam Driver Transforms in First Trailer for Michael Mann’s “Ferrari” Biopic

The first trailer for Michael Mann’s highly anticipated biopic “Ferrari” has been released, featuring Adam Driver in a nearly unrecognizable role as Italian sports car entrepreneur Enzo Ferrari. The film, set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival later this year, also stars Penelope Cruz as Ferrari’s wife Laura Ferrari and Shailene Woodley as his mistress Lina Lardi.

Joining the star-studded cast are Patrick Dempsey as fellow racecar driver Piero Taruffi, Jack O’Connell as racer Peter Collins, Sarah Gadon as Linda Christian, and Gabriel Leone as driver Alfonso de Portago.

“Ferrari” takes place in 1957, prior to the infamous Mille Miglia race. During the race, de Portago’s Ferrari racecar experienced a tire blowout, resulting in a deadly crash that claimed the lives of de Portago and nine spectators. Ferrari and the tire manufacturer faced charges of manslaughter, but the case was later dismissed.

The majority of the film was shot in Brescia, Italy, the actual location of the Mille Miglia race.

Mann, known for his work on films such as “Heat” and “Collateral,” is pleased that “Ferrari” is not affiliated with major studios. In an interview with Variety, Mann expressed his pride in the film’s independent nature, stating, “The origins of the movie and the content of the screenplay and the movie that you saw do not fit into the kind of film that would be embraced by the conventional studio system. It’s truly appropriate that it is an independent film being distributed by Neon, a very independent distributor.”

The screenplay for “Ferrari” was adapted by Mann and the late Troy Kennedy-Martin from Brock Yate’s 1991 biography, “Enzo Ferrari – The Man, The Cars, The Races, The Machine.”

Fans can get a glimpse of what to expect from the biopic in the newly released trailer.

“Ferrari” is set to make its debut at the Venice Film Festival, and distribution in the United States is currently being sought.
