The ‘Adin adin’ foral initiative will organize ‘bertso saioak’ in 21 residences for the elderly in Gipuzkoa during this month of May. Between tomorrow, Wednesday and the 19th, meetings will be held in which a total of 25 bertsolaris will take part. The last sessions were organized in the spring of last year in 18 centers and with the participation of 19 bertsolaris. The purpose of this program is to “improve the quality of life of the elderly people who live in them and promote their abilities through bertsos”. Two bertsolaris from the same region and from different generations will participate in each session.
The sessions are previously prepared with the residents through the dynamic and entertaining staff of each residence, in order to “get to know the old verses and popular songs that they like and thus activate the participation for the performance of the bertsolaris”.
Through this project, bertsolarism is brought to nursing homes, with all the “therapeutic and playful” potential that orality presents, given that music and bertsos “help older people work on their memory, they revive memories and experiences of the past, and that has a very positive effect” on their health.
