Latest Delhi – Adobe announced a significant investment in India’s future workforce Thursday, making its industry-leading creative software – including Photoshop, Acrobat, and its AI-powered Firefly – available for free to students at accredited higher education institutions across the country. The move, unveiled at the India AI Impact Summit, aims to accelerate AI-driven creativity and productivity, equipping a new generation with the skills needed to thrive in an evolving job market. This initiative directly supports the Indian government’s “Create in India” vision and complements a recent budget focused on generating two million jobs in the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics (AVGC) sector by 2030.

The expansion of access to these tools comes as artificial intelligence rapidly reshapes content creation, business models, and personal expression. Adobe’s strategy centers on preparing students for “AI-first careers” by providing not just the software, but also the curriculum, training, and credentials to stand out after graduation. The company is partnering with NASSCOM FutureSkills Prime, a digital skilling initiative backed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), to deliver free, industry-relevant courses and certifications to learners nationwide.

“Adobe is expanding the opportunity for creativity for millions of students across India, empowering them with AI skills, further accelerating Prime Minister Modi’s vision,” said Shantanu Narayen, Chair and CEO of Adobe, in a statement. “I look forward to seeing what the students of India create with Adobe’s industry-leading tools, and in doing so accelerating Viksit Bharat.”

A Broad Rollout Across India’s Educational Landscape

The initiative will extend to 15,000 schools and 500 colleges that will establish “Content Creator Labs,” providing students with dedicated spaces to learn and experiment with Adobe’s suite of tools. The free access encompasses not only Photoshop, Acrobat, and Firefly, but also the accompanying curriculum designed to build practical skills. Adobe emphasized its commitment to ensuring the AI-generated content students create is safe for commercial leverage, while also offering flexibility to integrate with other generative AI models.

Adobe Firefly, described as an “all-in-one creative AI studio,” integrates models from partners like Google, OpenAI, and Runway, giving students a range of options for generating content in their own unique styles. Acrobat Pro will enable students to enhance their productivity and collaboration through streamlined document editing and image manipulation.

Beyond Software: A Focus on Skills Development

This isn’t simply a software giveaway; it’s a comprehensive skilling program. The partnership with NASSCOM FutureSkills Prime is crucial, offering structured learning pathways aligned with industry demands. This collaboration aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and the practical skills employers seek, particularly in the rapidly growing AVGC sector. The initiative builds on Adobe’s existing Adobe Digital Academy, a global program focused on skilling and career development.

Adobe is also showcasing ‘Kathāvatār’, a series of five short AI films based on Indian folklore, created in partnership with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, at the AI Impact Summit. This demonstrates the creative potential of AI and its ability to reimagine traditional storytelling.

The Broader Context: India’s AI Ambitions

The timing of Adobe’s announcement aligns with India’s growing emphasis on artificial intelligence. The government has identified AI as a key driver of economic growth and is actively investing in initiatives to promote its adoption across various sectors. The Union Budget 2026’s focus on the AVGC sector, with a goal of creating two million jobs by 2030, underscores this commitment. Adobe’s investment is seen as a significant contribution to these national goals.

The move also reflects a broader trend among tech companies to invest in education and workforce development, recognizing the importance of a skilled talent pool for driving innovation. By providing access to its tools and expertise, Adobe aims to cultivate a new generation of creators and innovators in India, positioning the country as a global hub for digital creativity.

Looking ahead, Adobe will continue to collaborate with the Indian government and educational institutions to expand the reach of this initiative and refine the curriculum based on evolving industry needs. The next phase will focus on scaling the Content Creator Labs and monitoring the impact of the program on student outcomes and employment rates.
