Azrul Ananda, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Persebaya, expressed optimism about the changes and updates to the 2024/2025 Liga 1 competition. He believes these changes will elevate the league to a higher standard and inspire fans.
“I’ve been involved with Persebaya for seven years, and this is the first time I’ve seen the Indonesian League on the right track. In the past, there were many promises about improvements, but they never materialized. Now, under Mr. Erick, the PSSI regulator, there’s a clear ultimatum for operators to implement these changes.
Azrul highlighted several specific changes in the current season, including a more defined competition schedule, easier licensing, fair referees, and the use of VAR technology. He believes these are positive steps towards a better league.
Persebaya is confident that these changes will benefit the club. With a clear schedule and defined regulations, the team can operate more professionally and efficiently.
The Liga 1 competition kicks off this weekend with nine matches. A total of 18 teams will compete in the 2024/2025 season, including three newly promoted teams: PSBS Biak, Malut United, and Semen Padang.
Persebaya’s first match is against PSS Sleman on Sunday, August 11, at Gelora Bung Tomo.
Azrul believes that PSSI President Erick has significantly improved Indonesian football through strategic changes. He encourages clubs to embrace these changes and work together to elevate the league’s quality on the regional and international stage.
