At a high and continuous pace of work, day and night, construction work on Al-Sunbula Stadium in Diwaniyah Governorate, which can accommodate thirty thousand spectators, resumed after a hiatus that lasted for more than ten years.
Diwaniyah Youth and Sports Director Saad Abdul Amir said in a statement to the (INA) that “the first touches on building the stadium were in 2012, but work stopped for more than ten years for financial reasons, and the completion rate until the year 2022 was 57%, indicating that the area of the stadium’s construction It reaches 155 dunams, and the project was implemented according to technical and international specifications.”
He added, “The Sunbula Stadium project is one of the projects of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and after reviewing the progress of work by the implementing company, we found completion rates reaching (58.6), and work is continuing at an increasing pace, as work began from the end of July 2024, and the most important obstacles facing completion were reviewed.” We hope to complete the project on time.”
For his part, Chairman of the Investment Projects and Youth Committee, Hassan Adenin Al-Hilali, stressed to Lawaa, “The extreme importance of Al-Sunbula Stadium in supporting sports and youth activities in the region and enhancing the sports infrastructure in the governorate to be a prominent sports landmark that serves the people of the governorate and achieves their sporting ambitions when it is completed.”
For his part, resident engineer Alaa Hamoudi from the supervisory department, worker Waa, said, “Work on Al-Sunbula Sports Stadium has resumed by the Turkish executing company after a pause for years. The works included ficus, ceramic works, the electricity network, mechanical works, and training field works, and the work is proceeding at an increasing pace,” indicating that the cost of the project amounted to 114,500,000,000 dinars, and its implementation period is one and a half years.”
