After the acquittal in the trial of a rape allegation, football professional Benjamin Mendy has found a new club. The former player for the English champions Manchester City signed a contract with the French first division club FC Lorient, the club of ÖFB legionnaire Adrian Grbic, which runs until the summer of 2025. This was announced by the Ligue 1 club on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old Mendy was only acquitted in London last Friday in a highly publicized case. He was accused of raping a 29-year-old woman at his Cheshire home in October 2018. According to the prosecution, the attempted rape of a 24-year-old also took place there two years later. He had previously been acquitted in a separate trial of the allegation of rape in six cases and one case of sexual assault. At the time, the jury could not agree on a decision on the two most recently renegotiated allegations. Once the most expensive player in his position, the Frenchman’s contract with Manchester City ended on July 1st. When he switched from AS Monaco to City in 2017, he was considered the most expensive defender in the world with a transfer fee of 57.5 million euros.
