After an air attack: the electricity in Ukraine is back

by time news

Electricity in Ukraine gradually returned to activity, according to the words of the country’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, today (Saturday). According to him, the authorities managed to connect four nuclear power plants, whose activity was stopped after a severe attack by the Russian Air Force designed to disrupt the activity.

The president urged his citizens to use electricity sparingly and announced that about six million Ukrainians are still disconnected from electricity. He claimed that the latest attacks caused the worst damage of the war, leaving millions without light, heating and water, even in sub-zero temperatures.

Moscow claims that the military attacks on the infrastructure in Ukraine are legitimate from a military point of view, and that Kiev can end the war if only it meets the Russian demands and thus stops the suffering of its citizens. In response, the Ukrainians said that attacks aimed at causing suffering to the civilian population are a war crime.

Earlier this week, “Forbes” magazine published an estimate that Russia spent 82 billion dollars on the war, an amount that is about a quarter of the country’s total income last year. This estimate includes direct costs that are necessary to support the military operation but does not refer to fixed security expenses or losses caused to the local economy. According to the magazine, the Russians spent more than 28 billion dollars on artillery and rockets in the nine months of the war.
