Lhe situation seems to be on the verge of unblocking in Léro. After three days of detention at the prefectural gendarmerie of Siguiri, the general secretary of the workers’ union and four of his close collaborators were released on the evening of Sunday, March 05, 2023. A little later, they joined Léro where they been welcomed as heroes by their union members.
On March 1, a demonstration broke out at the Siguiri mining company (SMD). It was the postponement of the election of the trade union office whose outgoing secretary is a new candidate, which had provoked the anger of the workers. But that ended in the arrest of several of them, including the general secretary of the outgoing trade union office.
His detention with four other close collaborators, namely Oumar Sangaré, Kalaghan Soumah, Moussa Traoré and Damou keita, lasted three days. She left from March 2 to 5, 2023. It was at the Siguiri prefectural gendarmerie that they were all imprisoned. But for nearly 24 hours, they have been free.
At the time this article was put online, a discussion meeting between the management of the SMD and Fadimba Keita’s team was expected. Unless there is a last-minute change, the goal would be to sign a memorandum of understanding in relation to the election which should lead to the renewal of the workers’ union office.
