Abahani Limited captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto spoke to Tamim Iqbal in his dressing room. The formalities of the match were not over yet. Shanto sent Mosaddek Hossain to collect his man of the match award. But, the match referee stopped it. Later, Shanta hurriedly came to collect the prize. He quickly returned to the dressing room. On his return Shanto said without asking the media persons, he will speak after the meeting.
After talking with Tamim, Shanto again sat in a meeting with the Chairman of the Cricket Operations Committee, Jalal Yunus. This increases the curiosity of media workers. What is happening all of a sudden? By that time, the afternoon passed and the evening came.
The Tamim-Shantar meeting overshadowed the Abahani Limited-Prime Bank match at the Sherebangla Stadium on Monday (April 15) and became the center of discussion. What happened to the two? In response to such questions, Shanto told reporters, “It should be between me and Tamim Bhai.”
But, the journalists could not be satisfied with such an answer. When this topic was brought up again, Shanto said, ‘Brother, I just chatted normally. If something like that happens, you will know. We were discussing cricket. We were discussing how we can do better. Nothing too serious. Just meeting.’
Tamim played the last ODI before the World Cup last year. Even though he retired from T20, he did not play Tests for a year. Tamim’s return to international cricket depends on the meeting with the board.
What does Shanta, currently leading in three editions, think about Tamim’s return? He said, ‘If Tamim is a brother, the team will surely benefit a lot. Junior players can learn a lot. At the moment, it’s not a good idea to think too long about it. When it is discussed, you will know.’
In response to the question whether Tamim will return to the team or not, Shant pushed the ball towards the selectors. He said, ‘It is not important to see me. The selectors will see it. I have been watching since childhood as a player. Whenever he bats, I enjoy.’
Bangladesh will play T20 series against Zimbabwe in May. After that USA series, World Cup. Ones will have to wait till December. If Tamim returns, it will have to wait until the end of the year. However, Shanto is not walking in the plan with the ODI.
Nazmul Hossain Shanto said, ‘One day after a long time. There are no plans for this at the moment. But, the experience he has, if he is there, the team will surely benefit a lot. Junior players can learn a lot. It’s hard to really think about it at the moment. You will know when it is discussed.’
Shant scored a brilliant century against Tamim’s team Prime Bank. This left-handed batsman played an innings of 118 runs off just 85 balls. He won the man of the match award. Although he scored a century in the last ODI against Sri Lanka, he was a flop in the Test. This time he got a century in the Dhaka league.
Shanta said, ‘I like it. I managed to win the match. It’s nice to be able to contribute to every match. I was able to contribute today. Most importantly, champions… that’s next. Next match with Sheikh Jamal. How well can we play cricket in that match…everybody is in good condition. I hope the next match will be better.’
