First the shoe boom, an undisputed success of last November (helped by the chain’s marketing techniques) which saw the Lidl branded sneakers go out of stock in a few hours, then the announcement of an agreement with the sports brand Nike. The goal is the supermarket’s first sustainable shoe collection that will be available “from 6 May”, as stated in a note from the company, “in all over 680 stores of the brand”.

For each pair of shoes 11 bottles

The new Crivit Ocean Bound shoes are produced with plastic recovered from the oceans, explains the group, as part of the “REset Plastic” program, the international strategy for the reduction of plastic of the Schwarz group, to limit its use in its packs and packaging. The new Crivit sports shoes are produced with 100% recycled plastic: 75% of their textile component, with breathable mesh, comes from conventionally recycled PET bottles, while the remaining 25% uses the so-called “Ocean Bound Plastic”, that is, plastic waste collected from beaches, islands or coastal areas, in this case from Asia. For each pair of Crivit shoes, the equivalent, based on size, of 11 (up to 16) PET plastic bottles was recovered, recycled and transformed.
