Schlieffen served as head of the German army from 1871 – 1906 and died at the age of 79. It was only nine years after his retirement that World War I broke out. However, Germany scrapped his war plan and started implementing it.

Besides, German Field Marshal Von Moltke believed that attack is a better strategy than defense.

The reason behind this is that the reason why Japan won the plan before Russia and Japan was that it was always the first to initiate aggression and attack.

Germany thought so. France and Russia are allies. We are in the midst of these who are our enemies. It is wrong to attack both at the same time. Our army will disintegrate because of it. It will be easy for enemies. So let’s attack one of those two countries first. Let’s keep an eye on the other one. If you eliminate one enemy, France, then you can throw your entire army at Russia and defeat it too. But without going directly to overthrow France, we will enter neutral Belgium. Through it we will attack France’.
