Aftershock Festival: Thousands Descend on Sacramento Amidst Traffic and Parking Chaos
Tens of thousands of music fans are converging on Sacramento’s Discovery Park for teh annual Aftershock music festival, the largest rock, punk, and metal event on the West Coast. The festival is more than just a concert for manny; it’s a family tradition. “Two years ago, my daughter – I convinced her to go, and now we go every year,” shared Charles Parker, a festival attendee. His daughter, Makayla Parker, added, “I ended up going to the mosh pits and I was in the crowd and I reconciled with a lot of people from high school that I didn’t even know liked this kind of music, so it was super cool.”

Amidst the parking difficulties,resourceful solutions are emerging.Ashley Lara recounted her parking experience, stating, “backing up and into all of this is a little intimidating, but yeah, first try. Got it as close as I could to the sidewalk to get as many cars as possible.” The García family has capitalized on the demand, transforming their front yard into a makeshift parking lot, renting out 26 spaces at $45 each. “I take vacation from work as I’m going to make so much more money doing this than I do with that,” explained a member of the García family.
Despite some festival events being canceled this year, the parking business has fostered lasting connections.”I know it’s a lot of work, and I know for those four days you’re going to just be wiped out, but I definitely look forward to just seeing everybody again, everybody getting together. That’s fun,” the García family member added.
Festival attendees have several options to mitigate the parking and traffic woes, including rideshare services, a park-and-ride shuttle from Cal Expo, and free bus and light rail rides with Sac RT, provided they present their Aftershock festival ticket or wristband.
