The official spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture, Hamid Al-Nayef, said in a statement received by the (INA), “There is news received by the Ministry from the corridors of the Parliamentary Finance Committee about the reduction of support for peasants and farmers in the 2021 budget, whether in the field of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and all kinds.” The support provided by the Ministry to peasants and farmers,” pointing out that “despite the modest support provided by the Ministry, it was contributing to alleviating the burden on farmers and helping them to continue farming.”
He added, “Despite the requests to increase support for peasants and farmers in this year’s budget, it seems that there are those who are trying to end this important sector with unrealistic arguments and to increase the burden on the peasants and farmers, who, despite being exposed to many obstacles, have continued to increase agricultural production in quantity and quality.” In order to achieve food security, in addition to exporting the surplus in order to maximize revenues,” he described “these decisions as unrealistic at this time when everyone needs to maximize the state’s resources by relying on local production and protecting it.”
