The Minister of Agriculture went to Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo to attend the 37th Asia and Pacific Regional Conference (APRC37) of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Md. Abdus Shaheed.

He left for Colombo by air on Sunday (February 18) at noon. Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture is his traveling companion in the delegation. Mahmudur Rahman and FAO Bangladesh Representative Xiaokun Xi.

This 4-day long regional conference will start tomorrow on February 19 and will end on February 22. Ministerial representatives of more than 40 countries in the Asia and Pacific region, FAO Director-General, representatives of various UN agencies, development partners, representatives of NGOs and civil society will participate in the conference. The conference will discuss the current food security situation in the region and what can be done to ensure sustainable food security.

After the conference, the minister is scheduled to return home on February 23.

It should be noted that the previous Asia and Pacific Regional Conference of FAO was held in Dhaka in 2022. Bangladesh was the host of this conference for the first time.
