Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina commented that the country’s agriculture has prospered due to food preservation, taking new initiatives for farmers in food management, emphasis on research and giving importance to farmers.

He said that the government is giving subsidy of 26 thousand crore rupees annually. If cooperative agriculture is ensured in the way shown by the father of the nation, there will never be shortage of food in the country.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said these things on Friday (April 19) during an exchange of greetings with leaders of the organization at Ganabhaban on the foundation anniversary of Krishak League.

The Prime Minister said, once those who could not think about salted rice or dal rice, now they also think about fish, meat and eggs. As a result, those who criticize the government have to consider whether there has been development or not, keeping them in mind.

He said that various research institutes including BADC were closed for seed production at various times. Awami League emphasized agricultural research after coming to power. The Awami League government has reduced foreign dependence by increasing the production of various crops including seeds, fish, rice and vegetables. Awami League is fulfilling the nutritional needs of the people of the country by ensuring food security.

Sheikh Hasina said, BNP never wanted this country to be self-sufficient in food, they wanted to run the country by begging from other countries.

At that time, the Prime Minister said that the BNP’s claim about the number of arrested leaders and activists across the country, all the criminals detained in jail are BNP leaders and activists.

April 19 marks the 52nd founding anniversary of Awami League’s subsidiary organization Bangladesh Krishak League. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman founded the organization in independent Bangladesh on this day in 1972 to protect the rights of farmers.

On the occasion of the founding anniversary, the president of the organization, agriculturist Sameer Chand and the acting general secretary Biswanath Sarkar, congratulated everyone including the leaders and workers.

On the foundation anniversary, hoisting of the national flag and party flag in front of the Awami League central office at 6:30 am, a joyous procession from Manik Mia Avenue to 32 Dhanmondi at 7:30 am, tributes were paid to the portrait of the Father of the Nation at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum premises at 32 Dhanmondi at 7:30 am.

After that at 10 am, the leaders and activists exchanged greetings and cake cutting ceremony with Awami League President Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganobhaban. A discussion meeting will be held at Krishibid Institute Auditorium in the capital at 3 pm.
