AIADMK members walk out of Manamadurai city council meeting

Manamadurai: AIADMK members walked out of a meeting held in Manamadurai, Sivagangai district, to protest against a resolution passed on property tax hike.

The Manamadurai Town Council meeting was held on Monday under the chairmanship of Mariappan Kennedy. The meeting was attended by Deputy Chairman Balasundaram, Municipal Commissioner Kannan, Chief Secretary Ganesan and ward members.

After the meeting, Chief Secretary Ganesan read out a copy of the resolution on raising property taxes in the Manamadurai municipal area as per the order of the Tamil Nadu government.

Speaking on the occasion, AIADMK 15th Ward Member Deyvendra said that while the people have not yet recovered from the effects of the Corona freeze, the current property tax hike will affect the public the most. As a result, prices of all commodities, including rent, will rise. He, therefore, walked out of the meeting room saying that he had walked out of the meeting claiming that the AIADMK was opposed to the property tax hike.

Subsequently, all the AIADMK members who attended the meeting walked out of the meeting. Thereafter, the property tax hike resolution was passed with the approval of the DMK and its supporting members.
