Discussion

On behalf of the Ministry of Youth Welfare and Sports of the Central Government, the Olympic winners are conducting a discussion program with students across India to arouse the interest of students in sports. As part of this, a discussion program with students on behalf of the Salem District School Education Department was held yesterday at Holy Angels Girls’ Matriculation High School in Salem Alagapuram.

District Primary Education Officer Murugan presided over this. School Principal Julie Joseph gave a welcome address. Paralympian Mariappan Thangavelu was the special guest and discussed with the students.

Curiosity arises

Mariappan Thangavelu later gave an interview to reporters.

Then he said: –

When he returned to India after winning a medal at the Paralympics, Prime Minister Modi advised the Olympians to meet rural students and make them interested in sports. Discussion programs like this are conducted accordingly. Talking among students will make them interested in sports.

Aim to exceed 2 meters in height

India won 19 medals at the last Paralympics. Must buy over 100 medals in the coming seasons. At the next Paralympic Games, I set a goal of 2 meters in height and started training.

An academy will be started soon in Salem, through which students will be trained. The Central and State Governments have made all necessary arrangements for the sports sector. A ‘synthetic’ playground will soon be set up in Salem.

Thus he said.

The discussion was attended by a large number of students from various schools in the district.
