Expatriate arrested at airport with drugs in bag sentenced to 10 years in jail
Dubai: An expatriate man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after being arrested at the Dubai airport with 600 grams of narcotics. In addition, a fine of Dh50,000 must be paid. He will be deported to the UAE after serving his sentence. The drugs were recovered by customs officers from a suitcase in the possession of the accused.

The incident took place in November 2021. He was in possession of the drug in three packets when he entered the UAE. When questioned by customs at the airport, he claimed that there were no prohibited items in his bag. When the officers suspected that it was a drug, they sent it to the laboratory for testing.

He was later questioned in detail by the authorities but still pleaded not guilty. The main allegation was that the bag was sent by his girlfriend who was traveling on the same plane. He said his girlfriend had left the bag with him when he left the country and when he checked in, he told her to register the bag in his name. But the court did not consider these arguments to be credible. He was later sentenced to 10 years in prison.
