Train Service Disrupted in Santiago After Discovery of Body on Tracks

The Alameda-Nos train service experienced significant disruptions Tuesday morning following the discovery of a body on the tracks near the border of Pedro Aguirre Cerda and Lo Espejo. Service was partially suspended for approximately one hour while authorities investigated the incident.

According to initial reports, the incident occurred shortly after 4:00 AM as a machinist was conducting routine dynamic tests prior to the start of regular service. The machinist reportedly struck an unidentified individual who had allegedly crossed the tracks.

“The situation occurred after 4:00 in the morning, when a machinist carried out dynamic tests prior to the opening of the service,” a police source stated. “It was at that moment that he would have run over a still unidentified person who would have crossed the road.”

The partial service suspension impacted commuters traveling between Estación Central and Lo Espejo stations. Carabineros, the Chilean national police force, arrived on the scene to investigate the cause of death, and the Legal Medical Service (SML) was dispatched to remove the body.

By 6:55 AM local time, authorities announced the conclusion of the investigation and the gradual resumption of normal service.

“We inform that the police procedure has ended, the service will gradually begin to resume its normal operations,” the Nos Train – Central Station (@EFENos_) account posted on X/Twitter. “We appreciate your understanding.”
