Alan Jones Faces 2026 Sexual Assault Hearing Amidst Claims of Investigation Secrecy
A lengthy legal battle is set to unfold in 2026 as former Australian radio host Alan Jones prepares to face court on 25 charges of indecent assault adn two of sexual touching. The case,involving nine alleged victims,has been locked in despite assertions from the 84-year-oldS defense team that he was inadequately informed about the police investigation against him.
The matter is scheduled to be heard at Downing Center Local Court, beginning August 3, 2026, and potentially extending through December. The sheer scale of the prosecution’s case was revealed Tuesday, with Crown Prosecutor Emma Curran informing the court that 139 witnesses are currently slated to testify. Efforts to streamline this number have stalled, she explained, due to Jones’s reluctance to disclose which senior counsel he has retained.
According to Bryan Wrench, the defense solicitor, his client intends to present his own witnesses, believing “there is an iceberg of exculpatory material” yet to be uncovered. Wrench also argued that prosecutors should reconsider their decision to hold the hearing in a local court, advocating for a trial before a district court jury.

A key point of contention centers on the completeness of the police investigation. wrench asserted that police have not confirmed weather their inquiry is finished, leaving Jones uncertain about the specifics of the allegations against him and potentially unprepared for the 2026 hearing.”Whilst he’s been deprived of a jury trial, we don’t want to deprive mr Jones of a fair hearing in this court,” Wrench argued.
The magistrate, however, dismissed these submissions and formally set the hearing dates. A further case management hearing is scheduled for November 20,2024. Wrench declined to comment to reporters following the court proceedings.
The prosecution’s case has undergone some revisions as its initial formulation in September. Allegations involving two individuals where dropped, and accusations related to the severity of the conduct or the existence of a power imbalance between Jones and the alleged victims were withdrawn.
The former radio personality, who has pleaded not guilty to all charges, maintains that the accusations are “all either baseless or they distort the truth.” The alleged incidents of sexual misconduct are said to have occurred in a variety of settings, including private residences, restaurants, the Sydney Opera house, and even while two of the complainants were transporting him.
