In November, Nettavisen revealed that MLS club Charlotte FC wanted to sign Danish Grønbæk from Glimt. Even then, Nettavisen could report a potential transfer fee of around NOK 95 million.

The American club has since worked to buy the midfield jewel, and is said to have received bids of up to NOK 120 million and eventually also over NOK 130 million, rejected by Bodø/Glimt. Grønbæk is also said to have been promised huge sums of money in salary if he made the trip across the pond.

The saga has now come to an end for the time being.

Nettavisen is informed on Friday morning that Grønbæk has signed a new contract with Bodø/Glimt. The agreement means that the Dane will receive a significant salary increase and move up among the absolute best paid in the club.

In addition, Grønbæk adds one extra year to his contract to last until 2028. The original agreement lasted until 31 December 2027.

The new contract was signed at Glimt’s hotel in Marbella on Thursday evening, following Glimt’s training match against Swedish Hammarby, which ended with a 3-2 victory, Nettavisen is confirmed by sources.

Sources Nettavisen has been in contact with observed Grønbæk together with his agent on the way into meetings with the Glimt management on Thursday evening. There, the final details were nailed down and the signatures were put on the contract.

TV 2 and VG claimed on Saturday that they relied on information that Grønbæk was going to extend the contract. Now everything has fallen into place and the agreement is completely sealed.

If Glimt had accepted the offer from Charlotte FC, it would have made the Dane the club’s biggest sale ever.

Recently they sold Faris Pemi Moumbagna to French Marseille for over DKK 90 million.

Instead, Glimt has managed to get Grønbæk to stay, unless something completely exceptional happens on the eve of the window, to chase Champions League games with the northerners next season.

Kjetil Knutsen wants to bet really hard on taking Glimt through the narrow eye of the needle that will bring the club into the best European company for the first time in the club’s history.

On Thursday, Nettavisen could also reveal that Bodø/Glimt is working to bring home Jens Petter Hauge from Eintracht Frankfurt. At the same time, Amahl Pellegrino can be sold to the USA. MLS club San Jose Earthquakes have presented an offer to Glimt’s top scorer.

Håkon Evjen is also close to a move to Glimt from Danish Brøndby.
