Alexandria Firefighters Prevent Major Disaster at Scrap Warehouse
A swift response by civil protection forces on Saturday evening averted a potentially catastrophic fire in the First Abis area of Alexandria, successfully containing a blaze that consumed approximately 1,000 square meters of a scrap warehouse complex. The incident, sparked by an electrical fault, underscores the critical importance of interagency coordination in disaster management.
The fire erupted within a scrap warehouse in the camp grounds area, quickly escalating into a “fiery monster” that engulfed three adjacent warehouses storing highly flammable materials including plastic, cardboard, and wood. Emergency services were alerted immediately.
“Immediately after the danger alert reached the Alexandria Security Directorate through the commander of the Third Montazah Police Department, emergency teams rushed in a race against time,” a senior official stated. Security services, fire engines, and ambulances converged on the scene, establishing a comprehensive security cordon to protect bystanders and prevent the fire’s spread.
Firefighters faced a significant challenge due to the nature of the stored materials. Initial investigations indicate a defect in the electrical connections within the initial warehouse triggered the blaze, which then rapidly spread to neighboring structures. “The battle began when a defect in the electrical connections in the scrap warehouse caused a fire that quickly jumped to neighboring warehouses filled with flammable materials, doubling the challenge for firefighters,” according to investigators.
Despite the intensity of the fire, authorities reported a remarkable outcome: zero casualties. This achievement is being hailed as a testament to the effectiveness of the emergency response protocols. “Exceptional achievement: Achieving the miracle of zero casualties despite the magnitude of the fire,” one official noted.
Ongoing refrigeration processes are being employed to ensure the flames do not reignite. The Montazah Third Police Department is continuing its investigation into the precise cause of the electrical fault.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers posed by improperly maintained electrical systems and the vital role of proactive safety measures. A clear message remains about the importance of rapid response and tight coordination between agencies in avoiding larger disasters.
