Azerbaijani boxer Alfonso Dominguez will step into the ring today for the fight to claim gold at the Summer Olympics in Paris.
As reported by Day.Az, the athlete, competing in the 92 kg weight category, will face Uzbek Lazizbek Mullojonov in the final.
Today, the Azerbaijani rhythmic gymnastics team and two freestyle wrestlers will also join the competition.
In the qualifying round, the group exercise team will begin their attempt with hoop exercises, as well as ball and ribbon exercises.
Freestyle wrestlers Turan Bayramov (74 kilograms) will meet Albanian Chermen Valiev, while Giorgi Meshvildishvili (125 kilograms) will face Egyptian Diaeldin Abdulmuttalib. Both matches will take place in the 1/8 finals.
It’s worth noting that Azerbaijan has already secured 5 medals. Judokas Hidayat Heydarov (73 kilograms) and Zelim Kotsoyev (100 kilograms) became Olympic champions, while taekwondo wrestler Gashim Magomedov won silver, and Greco-Roman wrestler Hasrat Jafarov (67 kilograms) secured bronze. Boxer Alfonso Dominguez (92 kilograms) has already secured a silver medal after reaching the final.
