Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker stressed the importance of moving forward despite recent setbacks, as the team prepares to face Arsenal.
Liverpool will clash with Arsenal in the 26th round of the 2025-26 English Premier League (PL) at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland, England, on February 12th at 5:15 a.m. (Korean time). Liverpool currently holds the 6th position with 39 points, while Sunderland is 11th with 36 points.
Acknowledging Disappointment, Focusing on the Future
Alisson addressed his determination in a recent interview, released by Liverpool on the club’s official website on February 11th. The interview came after a challenging previous match against Manchester City, where a foul committed by Alisson resulted in a penalty kick for the opposition.
“It’s disappointing because I think we deserved a better result, but what happens on the pitch is part of football,” Alisson conceded, acknowledging the frustration of the outcome.
He elaborated, “At this level, one small mistake can lead to conceding a goal. Playing against Manchester City, a team competing for the title, demands perfection, and if you aren’t perfect, you will pay the price.”
Alisson added, “The result is disappointing, but another game is waiting soon. There is no time to dwell on disappointment. We have to prepare harder and win the next game. That is the most important thing.”
Preparing for a Tough Away Match
The Liverpool goalkeeper also cautioned about the challenges of the upcoming away game. “Every game in the PL is difficult. The opponent is a technically well-organized team that presses hard and plays physically. Their defense is also solid. We know we have to work harder if we want three points,” Alisson stated.
Liverpool’s season has been marked by inconsistency, impacting their position in the race for the top spot. Despite this, Alisson emphasized the team’s positive trajectory. “If you look at the details, we are clearly improving. Of course, results are the most important, and the current performance is not where we want to be, but we are in the process of reorganizing the team. We have to respect this process,” he explained.
He concluded: “I think all the players have adapted to the intensity and competition of the Premier League. The challenge now is to better understand each other on the pitch, make better decisions and be more connected.”
