The transport corridor between the Autonomous Republic of Nakhichevan and Azerbaijan will open a new transport artery, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev announced.

“The ninth point of the tripartite statement (on Nagorno-Karabakh) indicates the restoration of all economic transport links. “In order to ensure the unhindered movement of vehicles and goods in both directions, Armenia provides guarantees for the safety of transport links between Nakhichevan and the western regions of Azerbaijan,” Aliyev said during a televised address to the Azerbaijani people.

According to him, the control of the transport connection will be carried out by the border guard service of the Russian Federation, and on the basis of the agreement signed between the parties, the construction of new transport connections will be ensured, connecting Nakhichevan with the western regions of Azerbaijan.

“The opening of the transport corridor will bring Nakhijevan out of the blockade, and at the same time we are opening a new transport artery. I can say that all countries will benefit from it. Azerbaijan will unite with its inseparable part, Nakhichevan. Azerbaijan and Turkey unite. Russia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Iran and, if desired, Armenia can join this corridor. Thus, a five-way cooperation platform can be created in the region. I presented this idea to both the President of Turkey and the President of Russia, and they responded positively to it,” Aliyev said.

He noted that Azerbaijan wants long-term peace.

“To achieve this, it is necessary that cooperation develops together with security measures. We are ready for cooperation,” Aliyev said.
