Election of new executives of Football Federation of India will be held today at the head office in Delhi. Former footballers Paichung Bhutia and Kalyan Chaube are contesting for the post of chairman.

45-year-old Kalyan Chaubey, one of the leaders of West Bengal BJP, is said to have the best chance of winning. He is a goalkeeper and plays for Mohan Bagan, East Bengal. Former captain Paichung Bhutia has played 104 matches for India.

Either way, a player will grace the captaincy for the first time in the 85-year history of Indian football. There is competition for the post of vice-president and treasurer. At the same time only 14 candidates have filed nominations for the 14 executive committee members and they are elected unopposed. Members of the 34 state football associations are set to vote to elect new executives.
