Welsh Snooker Player Allan Morgan Eyes Continued Success in 2026

A Trethomas-based snooker player is reflecting on a strong 2025 and setting his sights on further achievements in the upcoming year. Forty-seven-year-old Allan Morgan, a competitor on the over-40s circuit, demonstrated notable form throughout the past season, culminating in a quarter-final appearance at the European championships in Albania this past October.

Morgan’s performance in Albania marked a significant betterment over his previous result, where he reached the last 32 of the competition. This year, he navigated the group stage flawlessly, winning every frame before securing a hard-fought 4-3 victory against a Belgian opponent after trailing 3-1. He continued his winning streak with a decisive 4-0 win over a competitor from Ireland in the round of 16.

His run ultimately ended in the quarter-finals against mark Joyce of England, a former professional player. “He had fallen off the professional circuit, so he was a bit too good for me,” Morgan admitted, while still expressing pride in his efforts.

Did you know? – Snooker’s over-40s circuit provides a competitive platform for players who may have aged out of the professional game or never had the opportunity to compete at that level. It fosters a strong sense of community.

The european Championships capped off a triumphant year for Morgan, who also achieved notable results in several welsh ranking events. Currently ranked second in Wales, his ambition is to ultimately claim the top spot. “That’s what I’m trying to do, yes,” Morgan confirmed, acknowledging the challenges ahead. “You’ve got some good players who have just turned 40 now this year, and obviously it’s an over-40s tournament, but some of these boys have been on the pro circuit, but I’ve never been lucky enough to get that far.”

Looking ahead to 2026,Morgan,who hones his skills at the Caerphilly conservative Club, aims to replicate his success. The Welsh ranking events are crucial, as a top-four finish qualifies players for portrayal at the European Championships. “You have six Welsh ranking events through the season,” Morgan explained. “If you finish in the top four, you get chosen to represent Wales in the European Championships.” As of now, having participated in three ranking events,Morgan holds the fourth position with three tournaments remaining. He lost in the semi-finals of the first and third events.

Before the European Championships, scheduled for October in Antalya, Turkey, Morgan will also compete in the home internationals – a team event he previously won with his teammates two years ago. Last year, the Welsh team narrowly lost to England in the final, and Morgan is determined to reclaim the title when the team travels to Leeds next August. “Hopefully this year if we get back up there, we can try to win it back.” The team competition involves each player contesting three frames, with a potential maximum of 12 points per team, progressing through a group stage, semi-final, and final.
